Grief and Loss in Community Service Work

Instructor:

Course Description:

For many community agencies, managing death and loss is an unavoidable yet challenging aspect of the work. Whether through personal or professional experiences, workers in our sector regularly face the impact of death or significant life changes. Grief-informed policies, procedures, training, and interpersonal support can empower agencies to respond comprehensively to the challenges of ongoing loss and transitions, including the traumatic impact of death and other significant events.
This training will equip participants with essential assessment and intervention skills for supporting themselves, their teams, and their agencies in dealing with grief and loss. We will explore how managers and colleagues can collaboratively respond to loss events, creating healthy, resilient teams and workplaces. Through a combination of presentations, reflective activities, and group discussions, this course will address grief and loss in three key areas:
  1. Support for bereaved workers as individuals.
  2. Support for a team when death or loss impacts the workplace.
  3. Support for the organization during significant changes that generate loss/stress responses.
