Do you feel restricted in helping clients and shelter residents with questionable motivation? Are the concepts of motivation, resistance, ambivalence, and compliance confusing? This course explores motivation as an interactive process between clients/residents and counselors, offering practical tools to address key issues in counseling and support situations. Special emphasis will be placed on working with individuals who may present as more “resistant.” This approach, which has been successfully applied in the area of addictions, includes content on the principles of Motivational Interviewing, building motivation for change, dealing with resistance, and understanding and using strategic tools for brief interventions
