Navigating Ontario’s Social Assistance Programs (Live Online)

Course Description:

This workshop provides participants with a comprehensive overview of Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), the two primary income security programs for low-income individuals. Participants will review eligibility, application processes, ongoing requirements, and the mandatory and discretionary benefits available in cases of special needs. The workshop also examines recent program changes, the role of the provincial Poverty Reduction Strategy, and upcoming proposed transformations.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Understand the key features of Ontario Works and ODSP, including eligibility and application processes.
  2. Learn how to navigate both systems to better support and advocate for clients.
  3. Become familiar with additional social assistance-related benefits and programs available to clients.
  4. Develop problem-solving strategies for challenges commonly faced in service delivery.

Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Gain a clear understanding of both income support programs and how they operate.
  2. Be better equipped to assist clients with navigating the application process and accessing benefits.
  3. Understand additional support options available through other related programs.
  4. Be able to resolve common issues faced when delivering social assistance services.
