Trauma and Substance Use (Formerly Seeking Safety)

Instructor:

Course Description:

This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of the Seeking Safety model, a highly effective and evidence-based approach for the concurrent treatment of trauma and substance use. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the model’s core principles—safety, integrated treatment, and empowerment—and learn how to apply them in diverse clinical settings. The workshop provides practical tools and strategies to foster stabilization and resilience in clients while addressing the complex interplay between trauma and addiction. Through interactive discussions, case examples, and experiential exercises, participants will develop skills to implement Seeking Safety interventions, promote emotional regulation, and support clients in building a foundation for long-term recovery. This training is ideal for front-line workers, including case managers, housing workers, clinicians, as well as leadership/management. This workshop also welcomes anyone seeking further professional development and an interest in learning about trauma-informed care practices within substance use treatment contexts.
