Trauma-Informed Care Essentials

Instructor:

Course Description:

Issues of mental health and trauma are increasingly prevalent and significantly impact interactions with service users and colleagues in the shelter system. Adopting a trauma-informed lens is essential to providing effective, compassionate, and sustainable support.
This training workshop is a condensed version of Introduction to Trauma-Informed Care and Advanced Trauma-Informed Care, designed to provide the essential knowledge and practical approaches from both sessions in a single day. Participants will explore the prevalence and impact of trauma, including how trauma and attachment histories can influence brain development, behaviour, and relationships. The session also examines the relationship between trauma, mental health, and the social determinants of health, while introducing practical strategies for responding to trauma in service settings and creating more supportive environments for both service users and staff.
