Cortney Hyland (she/her) is the Director of Operations and Business Development at Hy ‘N’ Hancement Consulting Inc., where she also serves as the Lead Instructor for Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) Training. Recognized by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), UMAB is delivered across both youth and adult sectors. Under Cortney’s leadership, the organization also offers a suite of professional development trainings, including Understanding Self-Care and Resiliency, Trauma-Informed Care from a Frontlines Perspective, Communication and Awareness, Report Writing, and Understanding and Managing Mental Health.
Cortney brings nearly two decades of experience in the social service sector, having begun her career in 2006. Her extensive background includes working in live-in treatment programs, family access through Children’s Aid Societies, group care environments, specialized in-home services, and secure custody and treatment facilities. She has consistently supported individuals navigating complex mental health diagnoses, cognitive and physical disabilities, substance use, and self-injurious behaviors. Her practice is grounded in trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
As a certified Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP), Cortney also holds certifications in Trauma-Informed Care, First Aid and CPR, and Levels 1 and 2 of Violence Threat Risk Assessment. Since 2010, she has been a dedicated UMAB trainer, known for her engaging facilitation style and her ability to tailor content to the specific needs of each agency. Her sessions emphasize psychological and physical safety, encourage reflective practice, and create space for meaningful connection between the training material and participants’ real-world experiences.
In 2018, Cortney was appointed Director of Operations and Business Development at Hy ‘N’ Hancement Consulting Inc., a role that recognizes her leadership, expertise, and continued commitment to the sector.
